Day Ten: Spiritual Gifts

THE GIFT OF THE SPIRIT

Just as the church is a gift, God also gives His people gifts to build up the church and point others to Christ. When a person comes to saving faith in Jesus, they receive what we call a gift of the Holy Spirit. These are supernaturally empowered gifts that God gives to build up the church and display Jesus' message to the world.

As we think about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, it’s important to remember that:

  • These gifts aren’t something we get to choose but something we receive from God.

  • These gifts aren’t a superpower to wield but a work God chooses to do through us.

  • These gifts aren’t forced on us, but something we must choose to let God work through us.

For every person who has experienced salvation through Jesus, you have at least one spiritual gift! Here’s a brief video that helps give an overview of the spiritual gifts and how they work.

DAY TEN DEVOTIONAL

Scripture: 1 Peter 4:10 (CSB)

10 Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (CSB)

Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God works all of them in each person. A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good.

What Is Your Gift

One of the ways we could think and understand the Gifts of the Spirit is to understand the unique purpose we have in the Church and in pointing others to Christ. Paul talks about how the physical body can’t just be the eye or the foot – instead, it’s many members that have different functions but make up the whole. In the same way, God has uniquely gifted you, equipped you, and desires to use your life experiences to build the church and open doors for gospel conversations.

Hear From God

Pull out a journal or your notes app, and take a few minutes to reflect on these verses.

Highlight –– Write down part of the Scripture that stood out to you

Explain –– Answer the question, “What is the Bible teaching?” Ask the Holy Spirit for insight, and use the resources below to help.

Apply –– How can you apply this in real life?

Respond –– Use what you’ve learned to pray, write out a next step, or consider who you can share this with.

PRAY

Today, would you add these things to your prayer time as you pray and fast?

  • God, thank You for making each of us unique, with special roles in Your kingdom

  • Help me to recognize and appreciate the diversity of gifts in our community

  • Show me how to identify and use our gifts for the benefit of all

  • Prepare us to support and encourage one another in discovering and developing our gifts
