Day Sixteen: Testimony
WHAT IS A TESTIMONY?
If you’ve grown up in church or been around Christians for a while, you’ve likely heard the word “testimony.”
Often, we use this word to mean “our story.” It’s the idea of sharing what has happened in our lives (whether we chose it or not) and how we saw God work through those decisions or circumstances. Our testimonies are powerful and often, they’re one of the greatest tools we have in connecting with other Christians and pointing people to Jesus.
But did you know that testimony goes deeper than just telling a story?
The Hebrew word for testimony is ‘eduth" (עֵדוּת). In Hebrew, the idea of a testimony isn’t just a story about what happened — it’s a declaration of what God has done that carries the power to be repeated. We could summarize the Hebrew word for testimony as: God do it again, with the same power and authority.
Have you ever thought that if God did it for you, that He can do it again for someone else? When you share your testimony, it’s more powerful than a story, but it’s a declaration of God’s power and a declaration that if He did this for me, He can do this for you too.
DAY SIXTEEN DEVOTIONAL
Scripture: Revelation 12:11
And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.
Writing Your Testimony
Have you ever written out your testimony before? If not, today would be a great day to begin! If you never have, here are a few ideas to help you get started:
Before Jesus – What was your life like?
Briefly describe your background, struggles, or worldview before you encountered Christ.
The Turning Point – How did you meet Jesus?
Share what led you to seek Him — a moment, event, person, or realization.
The Decision – What did you do?
Explain how you surrendered your life to Jesus. Be simple and clear.
After Jesus – How has He changed your life?
Describe how your heart, mindset, and life have been transformed.
The Ongoing Journey – What is He doing now?
Let people know you’re still growing. Talk about how God is continuing to shape you.
Can you write a testimony? If you find you can’t write a testimony (especially number three), then ask yourself: Am I really a follower of Jesus? If not, we invite you to give you heart and life to Christ today!
PRAY
Today, would you add these things to your prayer time as you pray and fast?
God, thank You for the way you’ve worked in my story
Help me not to hold onto my story, but to share it with others
Show me people whom my testimony could impact (again with the same power)
Prepare us as a church to share and celebrate each other’s testimonies
