21 Days of Fasting & Prayer Devotional – Day 1: May Your Kingdom Come
Today we begin 21 days of prayer and fasting, and are calling on God to answer the “may your Kingdom come soon” prayer that Jesus taught us to pray. This is not a timid, play-it-safe kind of prayer, so it is no surprise that the person who taught us to use those bold words was none other than the Son of God.
Jesus said, “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9-10 (NLT)
We earnestly desire to see God’s reign be established here on the earth today while at the same time, we know this begins first in our own hearts. What we’re asking for doesn’t just apply to others but is a prayer of submission to the authority of God and His sovereign rule over every aspect of our lives.
This may come at great, personal sacrifice as we put the things of God in front of our own wants, ambitions, or dreams but it aligns our hearts with where God is working and what God is doing. As followers of Christ, we want to be in the center of the will of God in order that the will of God may be accomplished on this earth in and through our lives.
As we prepare our hearts for these next 21 days, we are praying for the Kingdom to come soon, and as God’s will is accomplished on the earth as it is in Heaven, we will see what we have never seen before!
PRAYER PROMPT:
Today as you pray and fast, ask God to align your heart, desires and passions with the things He cares about the most. Ask God to reveal how He wants to use you to bring His Kingdom here on earth.
